“The most beneficial platform for my classroom is Google Hangouts Meet. One of the pleasures of working within the South Bend Community School Corporation is the authentic way we work with demographic inequalities and the struggles that our scholars face on a day to day basis. I would say that all scholars thrive on authentic communication and would take advantage of being able to see their teacher daily during this historical pandemic. Google Hangouts has allowed me to genuinely be there for my scholars and continue to create the relationship that is needed to be able to teach students. We all desire connection and community. Using Google Hangouts Meet has become the key factor for the success of scholars within my classroom.
I heavily rely on my scholars to give me input on things that they need to be successful during this once in a lifetime event. Through communication and relationship building I have found that my scholars desire the need to be heard. For example, scholars have expressed how they become overwhelmed with the unknown expectations in the coming weeks. As an educator I find that it is my job to not only educate them; however, to create an environment in which education can flourish. One thing that I know is my scholars love is using the app Tik Tok, I am looking into ways to use cultural responsiveness throughout my scholars' eLearning. This is a time for creativity and uniqueness to really be released.”
Shout outs!
“Overall, I simply want to give a huge shout-out to my Indiana University South Bend School of Education family. While reflecting back on my experiences through IUSB, the Department of Education had done a fabulous job of preparing me to be the best teacher that I could be for the scholars throughout our community. To all my past professors - I thank you for making me into the educator I am today. My scholars truly do benefit from all the love and knowledge I pour into them that you all selflessly poured into me. To all current IUSB Education students, know that you are in excellent hands and that South Bend Schools look forward to having you join #teamsouthbend one day! Lastly, I want to thank my Jackson Middle School team, and in particular, my principal Ms. Tiana Batiste-Waddell, for creating an environment where I have been allowed to show creativity using cultural responsiveness in my teaching with our community.”
